Seafood Supply Chain - Ocean Strategies - Page 5

Ocean Strategies recently chatted with Leigh Habegger, Executive Director of Seafood Harvesters of America, a national commercial fishing organization that works to advance science-based policies and regulations that support sustainable fisheries. Leigh discussed federal seafood-related legislation, how the commercial fishing industry has overcome Covid-19 challenges and the important role restaurants play in our seafood supply chain.

In late 2020, Ocean Strategies launched a Covid-19 impact survey to better understand how the global pandemic is impacting West Coast and Alaska fishermen as well as national seafood distributors. Over 350 fishermen and seafood distribution companies responded to last year’s survey, and we’re proud to see the results included in a newly released NOAA Fisheries economic assessment of Covid-19’s effect on seafood and fishing industries.

Ocean Strategies recently chatted with Arlin Wasserman, founder and managing director of Changing Tastes, a management and culinary consulting firm focused on delicious, profitable, sustainable solutions. We tapped into his expertise to learn more about consumer behavior around seafood, the effect Covid has had on seafood sales, marketing and messaging opportunities, and proposed federal policies that will affect the sustainability of the seafood supply chain.
